‘Conflict’; a way of building clarity and strength (and sadly too often confused with combat, and thus we are terrified of it). Let’s be clear, if you and at least one other person are attempting to do something meaningful and challenging, there will be conflict. Hell, there SHOULD be conflict. Conflict of ideas, conflict of approach, conflict of philosophy. But driven by mutual respect and a burning desire to pursue the mission, conflict strengthens ideas, fortifies commitment, and builds clarity and conviction. Conflict done poorly smells like punishment, undermines psychological safety, and steals momentum.Conflict done well creates positive momentum. Conflict is not a dirty word, it’s part of leadership.
