‘Accountability’; the terrifying and confronting opposite of ‘excuses’. Yup, it’s brutal. How many times yesterday did you complain - about a person, a situation, a system? Now ask yourself: Where am I in this? Real accountability means putting yourself into the equation. It’s not just acknowledging your role in how things are, it’s owning your role in how they could be better. It’s confronting because it strips away the illusion of powerlessness. You’re not just a bystander. You’re part of the cause AND part of the solution. So next time you catch yourself grumbling stop and ask this instead; As a leader what will I do to take accountability for this situation, and to take it to a better place? Then get on with it.
